Advice \ Computer Purchase Advice

Hardware (minimum spec suggested)

- Intel Core 2 Duo processor (this is the bit that does the work)

- Minimum 2Gb (2048Mb) of RAM (this is the memory the computer uses whilst doing the work)

- 160Gb HDD (this is the hard drive used to store programs and your documents and pictures etc)

- DVD Writer (so you can create CDs and DVDs)

- Intel internal wireless 802.11g wireless adapter (essential on laptops)

Software

- Windows Vista or Windows XP Professional

- Microsoft Office 2003/2007 (A suite of programs covering word processing to spreadsheets)

When you purchase a new PC it's often loaded with "crapware" - software you probably don't want such as product demos etc. It's recommended to check the Add/Remove Programs section to see what can be uninstalled when you get it.
